Air Ride Suspension 101

-What is Air Suspension? Air ride suspension, also called air ride, is a type of suspension found on many of today’s custom street cars and custom trucks. Air ride is used to replace the coil and or leaf springs on your custom ride. With an air suspension setup, compressed air is used to inflate rubber bellows, or “bags” of air, that are located in place of the vehicles original springs.

As the bags are inflated with compressed air stored in an air tank, they expand (rise) to lift the suspension which will lift the vehicle’s chassis higher from the ground. When the bags are deflated (air let out), they will compress from the weight of the vehicle. This will allow the suspension to be lowered back to “ride height,” or allow the vehicle to be lowered even farther to the ground, or slammed.
